The Epistle of James: Sermon Series and At-Home Study

This fall, Good Samaritan is going to read, together as a church family, through the Epistle of James as we continue to invite the Lord to align our community with the vision he has given us. In this short, often overlooked, letter at the end of the New Testament, James exhorts his readers to live out their faith; to take the great truths of Jesus (who he is and what he’s done), and live them out in our day-in and day-out lives. For James, discipleship and formation into Christ-likeness is found not in following Jesus with extraordinary acts of faithfulness, but in the daily realities of life - how we care for the less fortunate, how we speak to one another, how we pray for each other. James offers minimal reflection on the glorious truths of Jesus and our salvation (he takes these as a known reality for believers), but instead works in the nitty-gritty of how these realities are lived out in the life and community of followers of Jesus. I pray that you will join us on this journey, discovering how our faith directs our works.

At-Home Bible Study (see schedule to the right): The at-home reading plan can be used in a variety of ways. You could use it for a personal devotional; you can use it with your family, reading and discussing first thing in the morning or after dinner; or you could get a couple of friends together and commit to meeting as a small group over the next five weeks to discuss and pray through the text.

Weekly Reflections: Each week, a reflection on the week’s readings will be posted to this page and included in our weekly e-news. These reflections will provide some unifying thoughts on the readings to guide your personal or group study.
