Our Story

The story of our church is rooted in the story from which we find our name - the Parable of the Good Samaritan. Jesus tells us of a man, robbed and left for dead on the side of a dangerous road. Religious and community leaders pass him by, fearing for their own lives.

Desperately needing some good news, the man finds it in the person of the Good Samaritan, who not only rescues him from certain death, but provides for his every need until he is healed (Luke 10). The point of Jesus’ story? To illustrate the great love of God for us, a people desperately needing good news. Further, he tells his listener to go and do likewise.

At Good Samaritan, we believe that this story is our story. A weary, messy, group of people longing for good news who have found it in the person of Jesus. Then, we are given a purpose, “go and do likewise,” bringing the good news we have found into our neighborhoods, workplaces, and all of Summerville.

Our Vision

Good Samaritan Anglican Church is a grace-filled community where people find rest in the presence of God, friendship in the fellowship of the faithful, and purpose as ambassadors of Jesus.

Rest in the Presence of God

We all long for rest. Not leisure, but true, refreshing, and life-giving rest. We believe this rest is found in knowing and abiding in the God who created and loves us. At Good Samaritan, we seek to be a community where God can be discovered and known and where we find rest in His presence.

Friendship in the Fellowship of the Faithful

Friendship can be elusive. Though we seem to have an ever-multiplying number of acquaintances, true friends are hard to come by. We recognize that deep, meaningful friendship is grounded in commitment, sacrifice, and intentionality - three qualities that are rooted in Jesus’ friendship to us. At Good Samaritan, we seek to be a community where this type of friendship is found and celebrated.

Purpose as Ambassadors of Jesus

We all have purpose, though we may certainly wonder exactly what that is from time to time. We understand that our purpose is found in the work God has prepared for each of us. Further, through this work, we show the world the love of Jesus and the values of his Kingdom. At Good Samaritan, we seek to provide a community where everyone finds and understands this purpose for their lives.
